Making Your Wishes Known: A Living Will

October 31st, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in Health, Tips

A living will is a written statement that you do not want life-prolonging medical procedures when your condition is hopeless and there is no chance of regaining a meaningful life. Living wills have been around since 1976, when California passed what is called the Natural Death Act. Although called “wills,” they have nothing to do with property, but rather with one’s self, and are intended to take effect when you are still alive. An outgrowth of concern over the loss of ability to direct medical care at the end of one’s life, a living will is an advance directive and is operative only at the time you are terminally ill and are unconscious, or are otherwise incompetent to discuss and decide with your physician what treatment you wish.

Not only a tool to control the extent and type of medical care you receive at the end of your life, a living will can also help reduce the emotional stresses and strains felt by both your family and your doctor, who must decide whether to withhold, withdraw, or continue medical treatment that cannot cure or reverse your terminal condition.

Choosing Men’s Shoes

October 29th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in Tips

Don’t belittle choosing a pair of men’s shoes; it needs some tricks to get the right shoes. When you buying a pair of shoes, make sure you know it for work, sport, or what else for; because each of shoes has its own characteristic, and made for specific purpose. Don’t make it multifunction, you buy a pair of shoes for all activities, for instance. Besides it can break your shoes soon, shoes misusing can cause your feet hurt and tired.

Then, when is the best time to buy new shoes? Of course if you suppose to buy a new one due to your own reasons, but I didn’t mean that, what I talking about is the exact time to buy new shoes. Whenever you buy shoes, buy it after you did an exercise or other activities. Your feet swelled after doing exercises, and it is the best time to buy shoes; when your feet are in the biggest size.

The last, but not the least, is about the brand and price. Do you think wearing branded shoes is another important thing besides for your prestige? I will say YES. A branded shoes company will maintain the brand’s quality by providing the best quality of their products. You pay more for Rockport golf shoes, for instance, but you get lifetime quality satisfaction for that.

Write Down Your Dreams

October 25th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in Tips

Immediately after you awake, jot down as much of what you dreamed as you can remember. Try to note details, as insignificant as they appear to be. What was the color of the chair that mysteriously appeared in the living room of the house in which you grew up? What exactly did Joan of Arc say to you when she appeared in the room as you conducted your regular Monday morning staff meeting? Details are important.
When you try to remember your dreams, think about the feelings you had during the night. Were you frightened, elated, confident, angry? Sometimes focusing on the feelings of the dream helps you to remember the details.

If you decide to record your dreams on a regular basis, keep a dream journal. Don’t worry about what your dreams “mean.” The more you remember, the more you record, the more your dreams will be comprehensible to you. As you take note of them, they will become more vivid, more real. You will soon see how your dreams are a window into your inner life, which is active and wise, and has a lot to teach you.
Keep your dream journal by your bed so that the first thing you do each morning is record last night’s dreams. Or get a small dictaphone and put them on tape.

Keep Clothes Shipshape

Donna Wallace, product manager for Rowenta Irons, a leading manufacturer of premium irons, offers these
tips to achieve perfectly pressed clothes and linens:

  • Sort clothes according to temperature, working from coolest to hottest. Iron silks and synthetics on low to medium heat (approximately 350°F), wool on medium to high, and cotton and linens at high temperatures (400°F to 425°F). Since the right temperature is critical, let the iron sit for a few minutes after you have adjusted the controls.
  • Hang up or fold your garments immediately after ironing them.
  • Never use circular strokes—you can stretch the fabric. Iron lengthwise and eliminate wrinkles by blasting the area with steam.
  • When ironing large items, such as a tablecloth or curtains, set up two chairs next to the ironing board and fold the piece carefully onto the chairs as you work on it.You could also iron large items on a tabletop padded with a towel, provided that the table won’t be harmed by the steam or hot temperatures.
  • Iron sensitive fabrics with a pressing cloth—a clean cotton cloth, handkerchief, or napkin. Iron fabrics inside out to protect them from becoming singed or shiny
  • If you must use an extension cord with your iron, use a 12-ampere cord. Lighter-weight cords could overheat, causing fires. Make sure that you arrange the cord so you won’t trip over it.
  • Press pleats starting from the bottom, working from the inside of the pleat to the outside. Set pleats with a shot of steam.
  • Let clothes sit for a few hours after you’re finished ironing to allow the creases to set.
