Menopausal Problems
The scientific literature on natural or nutritional approaches to easing the distress of menopause is almost nonexistent. The standard medical approach is to prescribe various forms of estrogen.
Estrogen clearly is effective in alleviating hot flashes and also helps prevent the bone loss of osteoporosis, a serious problem afflicting many postmenopausal women.
However, hormone therapy carries enormous risks the risk of hypertension, blood-vessel disorders, heart disease and stroke, breast cancer and endometrial cancer. The current feeling in enlightened medical circles is that the hormones prescribed for menopause should be given only when there is a very clear need for them, and that they should be stopped as soon as possible.
