During your Pregnacy You Need to Avoid Some Cheeses

September 19th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in Diet, Pregnancy and Baby

You need to avoid some cheeses. Certain cheeses, mostly those that are mold-ripened or blue-veined, put you at risk. The reason you need to avoid these cheeses is because they have a higher risk of growing bacteria that can cause listeria. However, when any cheese (even those you would normally avoid) has been thoroughly cooked, it is acceptable to eat.
Cheese can be a great source of protein and calcium. So if you like cheese and have it in your diet, you simply need to know which cheeses are appropriate in pregnancy. Since most cheeses are made of pasteurized milk products, most are considered safe for pregnancy and during breastfeeding. Here are some of the most popular cheeses you should avoid in pregnancy:
•    Feta
•    Brie
•    Camembert
•    Romano
•    Gorgonzola
•    Roquefort
There are obviously more cheeses than this that you may need to avoid. Always err on the side of caution when eating cheese that you’re unsure of. There will be plenty of time in your life to enjoy cheese, when you’re not pregnant.
